The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be closed on the 3rd and 4th September. All orders for invitations will not be processed on these dates. Please submit all invitation requests well in advance of the closure dates to ensure intended departure dates can be met.

Sample of the Business Travel Requirements for an China Visa for UK Citizens

  1. Visa Eligibility

    This visa is for conferences, seminars or business discussions only. Applicants whose documentation states a different purpose, or who request a stay of longer than 30 days, must select "Z visa" from the drop down menu.   


    There are no specific guidelines issued by the High Commission regarding the issuance of business visas, it is on a case by case scenario and the High Commission's decision will be final and cannot be contested by VisaExpress. 

  2. Passport

    The applicant's actual passport. The passport must:

    • Have at least two blank visa pages
    • Be valid six months beyond entry date
    • Be issued as a full validity passport 
    • Not be damaged in any way

  3. Photograph(s)

    You must provide one colour, passport type photograph that meets the following criteria:

    • Be taken within the last three months and printed on high quality photo paper
    • Be taken against an all white background
    • Be 35 mm by 45mm in size
    • Provide the full frontal view of your head with your face centered in the middle and displaying a neutral (non-smiling) expression
    • You may wear neither spectacles nor headwear except for religious purposes
    • Your photo should not be affixed to your application and it may not display evidence of adhesive or staples

  4. Letter of Invitation

    A letter of invitation is required. In order to fulfil this particular requirement the applicant can choose from one of the two options detailed below:


    A letter of invitation from the company to be visited in China. A copy is acceptable. This letter must:
    • Be printed on A4 company letterhead paper
    • Include the full name and address of the inviting company
    • Include the fax and phone number of the inviting company
    • State the applicants full name, passport number, date of birth and gender exactly as it appears on their passport
    • State the relationship between the applicant and the inviter
    • State the applicants source of financial support whilst in China
    • State the date of issue which must include the year
    • Include the date(s) of entry and exit
    • Include the length of stay and number of entries required
    • Specify the place and purpose of the visit
    • Bear the official company stamp
    • State the inviters name as per passport in Chinese characters
    • Be signed in Chinese characters
    • Be issued within the last three months
    • Not be an email

    Invitations supplied with a company "chop" stamp must be accompanied by a copy of the Chinese Company Licence


    Important: Invitations must be correctly signed by the inviting party in China.  A detailed and simple guide can be found in our Applications Forms & Guidelines section


    Or


    A letter of invitation from the Chinese Foreign Ministry. A copy is acceptable. This letter must:
    • Be printed on A4 paper
    • Be issued by a Duly Authorised Unit
    • State the date of issue which must include the year 
    • Bear the seal and signature of the inviting unit
    • State the applicants date of birth
    • Be issued within the last three months

    A sample invitation of duly authorised unit can be found in the application pack


    VisaExpress can obtain an Official Government Business Invitation (Visa Notification Letter) on your behalf.  This must be ordered with the China visa application by simultaneously filling in the Applicant Itinerary and Declaration Letter. We also need the VisaExpress Chinese Invitation Order Form which can be found within the VisaExpress Application Pack. The current processing time for this service is eight working days which includes the issuance of the visa. 

  5. Copy of Passport

    A photocopy of the following document(s) must be submitted to VisaExpress:

    • A clear colour copy of the information page(s) from the applicant's passport
    • A clear colour copy of the applicant's valid proof of legal status in the UK where applicable


    VisaExpress will supply this requirement at a fee of £10.00 + VAT if not received with the application. This will minimise the risk of delay with the successful visa issuance

  6. Visa Application Form

    One fully completed and signed application form

    • Applicants must fully complete all answers to all questions
    • Applicants whose occupation includes media related activities must state their full job title in 1.15  
    • Applicants who are self employed must supply a full and detailed job title in 1.15
    • Questions that do not apply to the applicant must be completed as "not applicable"  
    • Handwritten forms must be completed in block capitals and black ink only
    • There can be no handwritten changes or correction fluid
    • Applicants must sign the form in the original
    • Each page of the application form must be printed on separate sheets of A4 paper
    • Signature on visa form must match signature on passport

  7. VisaExpress Order Confirmation

    For orders placed on the VisaExpress website, a copy of the Online Order Confirmation which is sent to you via email, must be submitted.


    For all other orders, and where applicable, a completed VisaExpress Visa Order Form which can be found in the VisaExpress Application Pack should be submitted.


    Please note that all card payments will only be made upon completion of the visa application process. 

  8. Applicants of Chinese Origin

    First time China Visa applicants born in China (including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) or those who have previously held Chinese nationality need to supply their former Chinese Passport and/or Identity Card plus their original Hong Kong/Macau ID or original Taiwan mainland Travel Permit. Applicants applying for a China Visa for the second or subsequent time must supply their current or former passport with Chinese Visa


    Applicants who have never held a Hong Kong ID card must supply a cover letter stating this and explaining the reason why. A copy is acceptable.


    The applicants name as stated on the Chinese Passport and/or Hong Kong ID card must be identical to the name on their current passport.

  9. Media Professionals

    Applicants whose occupation includes media related activities are usually only issued a one month single entry visa.

  10. Travel to Tibet

    Travellers entering Tibet must supply the original entry permit to Tibet to apply for the China visa.

  11. Proof of Previous Visa(s)

    Applicants who have previously been issued one or more Chinese visa must:

    • Supply a clear copy of their most recently issued visa
    • Supply a clear copy of the information page(s) of the passport in which the old visa was issued
    • Supply the original cancelled passport if it contains a valid visa
    • Supply a clear copy of their marriage/deed poll certificate if the old passport was issued in a different name to the new one    


    VisaExpress will supply this requirement at a fee of £10.00 + VAT if not received with the application. This will minimise the risk of delay with the successful visa issuance


    Applicants who are no longer in possession of the passport containing previous visas must submit a personal statement. A copy is accepted. This statement must:

    • Be addressed to the Embassy
    • Explain why the passport is no longer in their possession
    • Include the exact wording as follows "I declare that the information provided above is genuine and I will fully bear the legal consequences of its content. I understand that any false, misleading or incomplete statement may result in the refusal of a visa for or denial of entry into China"
    • Include the date, signature and printed name of the applicant at the bottom of the personal statement

  12. Applicants of Turkish Origin

    Applicants of Turkish origin are requested to submit an original invitation from the company in China

  13. Applicants of Sri Lankan Origin

    Applicants of Sri Lankan origin must provide their ethnic group and religion which should be handwritten at the bottom of the first page of the visa form

  14. Multiple Entry Applicants

    Applicants requiring a multiple entry visa must supply a clear copy of a previously obtained multi entry visa (if obtained before) when applying for a multi entry. Only previous visas that have been used will be considered.

    Please note that should applicants applying for a multiple visa not satisfy the above conditions, the Embassy may issue a single entry visa.

    Applicants who would like a visa valid for more than one entry must supply a copy of their last Chinese visa and ensure the visa application form and the invitation letter request this. Applicants are advised that the issuance of a visa valid for more than one entry is not guaranteed and is issued solely at the visa officers discretion. The Embassy's decision will be final and cannot be contested by VisaExpress.

  15. Double Entry Applicants

    Applicants requiring a double entry visa must supply a clear copy of a previously obtained visa (if obtained before) when applying for a double entry. Only previous visas that have been used will be considered.

    The flight and hotel confirmation for applicants requesting a double entry visa must show both sets of entry and exit dates. Please note that should applicants applying for a double visa not satisfy the above conditions, the Embassy may issue a single entry visa.

    Applicants are advised that the issuance of a visa valid for more than one entry is not guaranteed and is issued solely at the visa officers discretion. The Embassy's decision will be final and cannot be contested by VisaExpress.

  16. Two Year Visa Validity

    Applicants requesting a two year multiple entry visa must:


    • Supply a clear copy of two previously obtained visas. Only previous visas that have been used will be considered.
    • Supply a clear copy of the information page(s) of the passport in which the old visa was issued
    • Supply the original cancelled passport if it contains a valid visa


    Please note that should applicants applying for a two year multiple visa not satisfy the above conditions, the Embassy may issue a single entry visa. Applicants are advised that the issuance of a visa valid for more than one entry is not guaranteed and is issued solely at the visa officers discretion.


    The Embassy's decision will be final and cannot be contested by VisaExpress.


    VisaExpress will supply this requirement at a fee of £10.00 + VAT if not received with the application. This will minimise the risk of delay with the successful visa issuance

  17. Holders of a Valid Visa

    Applicants are only permitted to hold one valid Chinese visa at any one time. Applicants holding a valid visa must:

    • Provide the current or second passport for visa cancellation upon submission of a new visa application
    • Provide a personal statement requesting the cancellation of the current valid visa. A copy is accepted

    This personal statement must:

    • Be addressed to the Embassy
    • Include the exact wording as follows "I declare that the information provided above is genuine and I will fully bear the legal consequences of its content. I understand that any false, misleading or incomplete statement may result in the refusal of a visa for or denial of entry into China"
    • Include the date, signature and printed name of the applicant at the bottom of the personal statement

    • A copy of the flight confirmation showing each applicant's name and the onward/return travel.
    • A copy of the hotel confirmation showing address and phone number along with each applicant's name and check in and out dates.    

    Applicants travelling on a cruise or on a trip with a travel company will also need to provide a detailed itinerary from the cruise/travel agency.

    Applicants visiting friends/family must select "Private" visa as their purpose of trip for the correct information

  4. Copy of Passport

    Children Under the Age of 18

    One parent must complete and sign sections 4 & 5 of the Visa Application Form whilst the other parent must only sign section in 5.5 once this has been done.  

    Children under the age of 18 are requested to provide the following documents:
    • Original and copy of long birth certificate
    • Original passports of both parents plus a copy of their information page(s)
    • Original and copy of their Indefinite Leave to Remain permit where applicable
    • Old Chinese passport or People's Republic of China Exit and Entry Permit if applicable

    VisaExpress is unable to assist children who are applying for their first visa and whose parent(s) holds a Chinese passport as they must apply in person for their visa.


    Children Under the Age of 6

    Children under the age of 6 are requested to provide the following documents:
    • Original and copy of long birth certificate
    • Original passports of both parents plus a copy of their information page(s)
    • Letter of consent signed by both parents

    VisaExpress is unable to assist children who are applying for their first visa and whose parent(s) holds a Chinese passport as they must apply in person for their visa.

  13. Multiple Entry Applicants

    Multi entry visas are only available to cruise ship passengers. Applicants requiring a multi entry visa must ensure that the itinerary provided shows more than two entries in China excluding Hong Kong and Sanya.
